Mine starts in gear with the clutch lever pulled. YMMV.

Tried it today... Even with the kickstand up, it will not start in gear.

That it is! It's a wonder, there isn't still a scar on the front of my shin from all the mishaps starting that first bike!

Nope, my '14 Slim will not start if in gear. Clutch in, on or off the kickstand.

That and a slight PSA was my goal!

Once I realized what i'd (not) done, I shook my head and let my kid laugh at me. Not that big of a deal... I've sure done stupider things! LOL

It is creeping into H-D. The Street Rod will only start in neutral. The Trike will only start in neutral unless you know a secret code in the owner's manual that allows it to start in gear with the clutch pulled and the brake applied.

My 92 Softail does not care. You push the button and it turns over regardless of gear, kickstand or clutch. But I always start it in neutral with the clutch in. And I double check that it is in neutral by rolling it a bit with the clutch out.

My wife has a trike, but doesn't know anything about a secret code. The trike will not start in gear unless the clutch is pulled in & brake is applied, which is a pretty dumb "feature" imo.

(You can do that on a Shovelhead if the ignition isn't locked). Good thing I didn't need to get in the bags or unlock the gas door (caps) when I stopped and got gas.
You should get a Shovelhead.
Yup - did that too.... left the keys at home in my other jacket. According to the fancy computer thing I had 92 miles until empty and 128 to go. Swing into the gas station, prepay and then realize I can't open the cap. An act of Congress was needed to get the prepay back and proceeded to the local dealor in that town that just happened to be closed on that Monday.

Rode around until I saw a bike in the Taco Bell parking lot. Went in and found the guy and asked if he could unlock my gas cap, I received the obligatory "You're an idiot for leaving without your keys" roll of the eyes. He said his key wouldn't work, he didn't know that the gas cap only locks for the barrel key, not the specific grooves. He opened it, I put a glove in it so it didn't latch on the 3 blocks to the gas station.

Added keys to pre-ride checklist. Seems like I make more lists the more dinosaurish I get.....

That sure seems odd to me. I know there is a neutral switch and a clutch switch that will prevent it from starting in gear without the clutch pulled in. All of my bikes have always started in gear if the clutch is pulled in.

See, I got this part mostly taken care of.... To get to my bike, I have to remove a padlock, which is on the keyring with my bike keys... As well as a hook to hook it on my pants... Which I've been doing out of habit with all of my keys for about 35 years now.

Well, that and the security system which will let me start it with the code, but if I have to enter the code, it reminds me to go get the friggin keys!
