Which route is better to Sturgis, Wisconsin or Iowa?

I have done the I-80 route, the US 20 route, the 212 Route, I-90, I-94 and up to Canada and across.
I would not recommend one over the other. Each has some variations. On the I-80 you can go north at Iowa city to I-90 t0 I-35 or I-35 north at Des Moines or go north on I-29.
Go up to route 2 and across. Go to Highway. Us 30 and up.
Just look at the map there are almost 8 or 9 ways to get there. I have went about two dozen times and tried them all. The best is to go one way then return another.

For me, leaving from Omaha, it depends on whether I'm in a hurry or not. If I am, I29 north to I90 and hammer down. If not, I much prefer cross country through Nebraska. People who bad mouth it have either a) never gotten off the interstate, or b) have a deep seated hatred of helmets. I vote for Hwy 20.

18 west through Iowa, 29 north for 2 miles, west on 44 to the Badlands. You pretty much have the road to yourself the whole way. Crossing the Missouri river on 44 is awesome.
The stretch on 44...anytime below 1/2 tank, top off your gas at the first opportunity, and carry water. Never had a problem, but that is NO place to break down. Always about 100 degrees, and no trees. Your bones will be bleaching in the sun by the time they find you.
