I tried that lid and really liked it in terms of bang for the buck.
But it did seem to run a bit warm for me here in Cali. And my main issue was my field of vision just wasn't as good as it was with the 3/4 I had previously been running.
I went with the Bell Bullitt FF, which has a great big old eye port in which I can track the road just as well as I did with the 3/4. There's a lot of crap and bumps in the road in L.A. and that's pretty important here if you ride daily.
Plus, it has better venting. I'm not sure why the Bullitt would be uncomfortable for you. They have the same US oval cut as the Gringo, I believe. But every noggin is different, I guess.
I don't mind looking hipster. I just like the way the helmet rides. I have actually moved on the carbon version now, but this is the first Bullitt I owned:
