My first Harley was a FXLR. 10th anniversary Low Rider.

 

If you think Harley's bad, just look at the ridiculous names people are giving their kids nowadays. Can't even remember 'em anymore.

 

Which makes us all wonder if he really ever jumped the shark.

Cool link thanks, but Lemmy got the Springer designation wrong when he said SS is for Springer Softail and when it comes to Softails at least, Harley Davidson does have a method to their madness.

Softails are either FXST for FLST FX denotes Softails with a 21 inch front wheel, FL is softails with a 16 inch front wheel..

FXSTS Softail Springer = 21 inch front wheel
FLSTSC Softail Springer Classic = 16 inch front wheel
FXSTC Softail Custom = 21 inch front wheel
FLSTF Softail Fatboy = 16 inch front wheel and so on.

Apparently I have a FLHTCUTG. It is a good thing that I now understand the arcane nomenclature because I have not been able to figure out until now why I have three wheels? I think I got the alphabet screwed up when I went shopping for a ride? Sure wish I would have had the cheat sheet so that I didn't make such a huge mistake

 

Any guesses as what the designations will be for the next 50 models over the next 5 years?

Interesting note, if you read the code for the Softail Deluxe you'll find no 'D' in the designation, just an 'N'. Tha is because its original name was the Softail Nostalgia.
