I recently bought a 2015 Sportster XL1200 (Forty-Eight) that has Vance & Hines Short Shots on it. Problem is, the bike was layed down and the heat shields are all jacked up. Their physical integrity remains intact. They're just aesthetically displeasing. I don't think it's necessary to replace them but has anyone ever stripped the heat shields and wrapped the pipes? I could paint them I guess but they're still flat spotted.

 

Sure, you can wrap the pipes. Lots of folks do.

My brother wrapped the pipes on his Sporty and loved it. It not only looked cool, but he said he felt a lot less heat on his leg.
