Default PAINTING AN INNER FAIRING

I'm thinking of painting my inner fairing in a matte black finish. Is there any special prep that needs to be done to the gelcoat or any special paint or primer that needs to be used? Thanks, Lee

Lee,

I'm assuming you're using a spray bomb?? If so, just wipe down the inside of the fairings with some sort of degreaser. (laquer thinner for example)

And if you are using a spray bomb, make sure you buy a satin or flat finish, not gloss.

HTH's,

Mark

Without having seen the part...
1. Wash with 50/50 citrus degreaser/water mix
2. Sand thoroughly to 320 grit
3. Wash again
4. Prime with polyprimer
5. Wet sand to 400
6. wipe down with VMP Namptha or pre-clean
7. Paint with Urethane Enamel (2 stage for the best finish)

wvrider,

Screen's method is the correct way if you are trying to get a finished product on the inside. I was assuming you just wanted to black it out so you couldn't see color.

Very rarely do I finish the inside of any painted panels.

Hope I didn't mislead you, just thought you wanted to dust the inside to not show overspray.
