Default Jump starting Harley vehicle has to be running!

I live on the coast but store my bikes inland 10 miles. There is no power to keep my 2008 Street Glide on a charger and sometimes when I go to ride my bike the battery is almost dead.

I have jump started my bikes many times from a few different vehicles and when I do so without the car running it will not supply enough power to start my bike. I always have to start my truck and let it run and then it starts.

Am I doing something wrong? Has anybody else had this problem? It's that way with both my bikes so I know it's not just my street glide. The battery is not old either.

So what am I doing wrong? Any tips?
Any suggestions on keeping it charged with no power at the storage?

You keep the vehicle running when you jump. Otherwise buy a portable jump starter.

I fully charged, engine off car battery voltage is 12.6 volts.
I running car battery voltage is around 14.6 volts.
Invest in a solar powered battery charger.

Well that's what I've always had to do but reading other forums people say not to jump with the vehicle running.

Get the XP-1 from Antigravity. It will crank off that bike in a flash with no need for a vehicle there running or not.

Take the battery out and take it home where you can keep it on a tender.

I don't understand that at all-unless you're using some really cheap *** jumper cables.

Cheap battery cables are made with small cables. You will have too much voltage drop. And if the cables are of any length, its only worse.

Usually jumping a motorcycle with the car running can fry your ECU, Battery and voltage regulator so I'd be very careful with that

Do NOT...I repeat...DO NOT jump a bike from a running vehicle.
Remove the battery & put it on a tender at home, although if you let it die that many times it is prolly toast.
