Default Palm Springs CA?

Thinking of getting out of the cold and renting for a few days end of this month...Anyone from out that way or has riding experience in that area?
Possibly renting from Eagle and using PSprings as a home base? Day trips to somewhere??
Thanks!

Palm Springs may have wind at that time. A crapshoot this time of year. Ok, so you have options. To the West, you have the cesspool known as Los Angeles. A 70 mile hop that you'll be WFO pretty much the whole time. The traffic speeds along 10 between LA and PS are usually "around 100mph."

Anyway, to the East is a vast nothingness. You want desert? You got it. Altho you could take 86 South to some fine roads in Imperial County. Salton Sea area has grapefruit for ag.

To the North you have...more desert! 29 Palms where the USMC shoots stuff (like tanks.)

To the South, you'll find "Pines to Palms Highway." AKA HWY 74. Take this from HWY 111 up the hill to HWY 243 and you'll be gifted with a ride to Idyllwild. A mountain resort town the welcomes motorcyclists.

Other things to do in Palm Springs?

Chino Airshow

Palm Springs airshow

Movie star home tours

The Aerial Tramway.

Close to BigBear Lake but they got record snow this winter. Might check with Caltrans for road conditions.
Lake Arrowhead is another mountain resort area that has great moto roads.

Not sure if Angeles Crest Highway will be open by the time you want. It's 70 miles of sweepers that run along a mountain ridge. Heard they had a sinkhole or mudslide or avalanche or something...

or, there's golf.

The mountain roads around there can be perfectly dry and enjoyable but may have snow if after a fresh fall. Highway 74 to the West down and around to Idyllwild and 243 to Banning would be accessible. I'd also suggest the "Hemet to Borrego Springs" route. motorcycleroads.com will have some great suggestions.

A ride around the Salton Sea would be trippy but there are better roads for fast action riding if that's what you want.

Good write up,

BTW....74 Just east of Capistrano is closed due to storm damage. No outlook is provided on the Caltrans site.

As you mentioned for the 10, freeway speeds are either 5MPH or anything goes...typically in excess of 75.

Joshua Tree National park is near Palm Springs, some interesting stuff to see there.

Rte 74 for Idywyld (if snow allows). All of Rte 74 is great.
Across Rte 10 you can get to Big Bear (if snow allows)
Joshua Tree
Salton Sea area isn't far either

FYI, that area in the spring can have atrocious winds at times. Check the forecast. Ron

Oh yeah, forgot about "Pioneer Town" it's on the way to Joshua Tree NP. Movies were shot there many years ago.

There's a raceway out thata way if you wanna run a fast car or bike. Chuckwalla Valley Raceway.
