Yup. There'll be those who think it's cool and murdered... I just see a bunch of black stuff that makes it look like a low-buck bike that I have to pay a premium for.

It's unfortunate, too. I was predicting this bike 8 years ago, and now I'm pretty sure that the blacked out bikes will be as desirable as a long chopper. I really like the King without all the accoutrements from 1970 like the badging on the fender tips and high mounted license plate. If they release some versions of it for 2018 with chrome options, I think they will have a hit.

yup, not another model. Another trim level. Ugly to me, and sure not worth the premium to replace chrome with powder coat....

Shortened version of the article:

"Fits into the “custom bagger” niche,
Trim-fitting saddlebags, lowered fender & low-mount license plate
Suspension & seat from a Street Glide Special
Blacked-out bits
9-inch-tall ape-hanger
26.4 inch seat height (vs 28.2)

781 pounds dry & 818 wet (vs 791 & 828).
The Road King Special costs a bit more —

$21,999, for the base model vs $18,999 for the entry-level Road King."

Love the look ......... is it worth 3 grand that ones up to the buyer.
I guess if you are going to make the same (or similar) changes it may be....

For me it depends on the color of the bike on weather I prefer chrome or blacked out.........

I like it, and for the people that want a blacked out bike, this is a much less expensive way to get there than a regular King.

If I were in the market for a King, this is the one I would get. The missing windshield is much less than buying stretched bags, and the Street Glide rear fender facia.

I personally like it. And I agree this is a cheaper route than buying a regular King and doing the upgrades through Harley. Nice color options too. I like all of them. I blacked out most (but not all) of my 2017 Ultra and it cost more than $3K. Not even including the new bars and stretched bags. That was even with a nice discount on the labor hours. Getting the blacked out parts installed is a pain in the *** on the new motor. Guess if you are mechanically inclined you could do it yourself and have someone powder coat the parts, that would be cheaper. My guess is this will be a very popular model at the dealership. The King is a great bike. Fun to look at pictures.... I keep on thinking about Victory. They never came close to HD. The HD bikes just continue to hold up year after year. Please do not take this thread off topic with Victory. Just thinking out loud.

If I'm getting a new RK I'd get this one.

Just thinking out loud here myself; why mention a thread jack and do it, all in the same post?
