Default First oil change completed..well, almost.

Okay, I drained all of the oil from the oil tank, took off the old filter, put the new one on..did all of that. Put in 2 quarts of oil, and checked it. On the jiffy stand, it reads a bit below the 'full' mark on the dipstick. Sitting straight up, it reads a bit above the mark. I can't start the bike up tonight, as it's after 1 a.m. and I have respect for my neighbors. So, I guess what i'm asking is do I need to check the oil with the bike on the jiffy or straight up and down? And after I start the bike up, and it fills the filter up and everything, how much oil do you think i'll need to add? Thanks..

For my twin cam it is on the jiffy stand, but I don't know for the EVO's. My manual is for 2002. Sorry I couldn't help more...

Alright, thanks anubisss. I'd say it's the same for the EVO then, but hey..what do I know? ..maybe someone else will chime in pretty soon.

Okay, so we'll say jiffy stand. Now, next question...hot or cold?

Supposed to be warm, IIRC.

Oil level on a Evo should be set with the enginewarm and the bike level. It will require 3 qrts after you start it and fill the filter.

Oil level on an EVO is checked the same way that it is on a TC. Book specifies to check it on the side stand, and the oil should be checked after the bike is warmed up.

A Softail or Dyna EVO requires 3 quarts with a filter change, and a Dresser takes 4. The reason you are seeing the bike full with only 2 quarts is because you haven't started the bike and filled the oil filter. Once you start the bike you should have to add one quart, or very near that.
