Some folks think they're good to go if they still have tread. I bought one in 2013 that had a '93 tire on it. Rode it home slow and easy on slower residential roads. Lightweight dual purpose Yamaha with knobbies and rim locks on the wheels, wouldn't have even tried that on a Harley, would be a trailer home with a tire like that.

I change out my own tires and replace the tube and rim band every tire change. I use Dyna beads for balancing but I may look into Roll on the next go around.

I change every tire, tube, and liner every year or 8,000 miles. Spoke weights sometimes come off. Hurts when a one ounce steel hits you at speeds exceeding 70 mph.

9 years on the tire, you got your money worth and ran it several years longer than I would feel comfortable. As far as the tube and rim strip, you are talking about low cost items than one could debate either way when tires are being changed out every year or two, but seeing as you go up to 9 years on a tire then changing them each time should be an automatic yes

First any rolling rubber over 5 years is due to be replaced anyway.
Second, always change the tube and rim band out. It's a consumable item when the tire's done they're done.

As for ride-on, I seem to be the only voice of negativity, get it balanced anyway. Then add the ride-on.

Thanks all.

Tires, tube and bands.

I'll deal with the weights/ balancing.

Rubber age making tube and band consumable....I can agree....good advice.

Again thanks.

What helps, too is to get some baby powder (the kind with talc) and sprinkle it over your tube and some inside the tire before mounting it. Prevents the tube from sticking and makes it easier to install. Go to target or walmart or something and get the little travel size baby powder for cheap.

9 year old tube? Yup, change it for sure! I don't change tubes every tire change, but I go through tires a little faster than most. I usually change tubes with every 2nd front tire, and every 3rd-4th rear tire. That way they get changed out every 18-24 months at most.

9 year old tire? I'd say you need to ride that sumbitch more after you change both tires, both tubes and rim bands. Wow!
