Default Garage Planning

I have a home with a typical two car garage. It's approximately 20X20. I'm having a nice addition built which will include a second, larger two car garage, which will be 24X28. I have a full size SUV, and a Honda Civic. And I have the Harley and a Triumph, as well as a foldable Stinger motorcycle trailer. I'm trying to decide how to organize things once the addition is finished.

The original smaller garage is situated best for general use, closer to the kitchen, with access through the laundry room. The new garage will have access to the house through a guest bath leading either to the master suite or family room.

I'm thinking that the SUV and car should remain in the original garage, and that I should take all the storage shelving and workbench, cabinets, etc. out of there. That would leave an essentially empty 20X20 area for accommodating two cars. I think that would enough room for opening car doors, getting in and out, etc. Then, the new, larger garage could accommodate the motorcycles, work area, storage, etc. The alternatives would be to split it up, with one bike and one cager in each garage, or to put the bikes in the smaller garage.

What would you do?

Let mama park in the original, closer garage. Use the second bay for lawn mowers, snow blowers, shovels and such. Put your car and the bikes in the new, larger garage.

First ask your wife which garage she would like to have the vehicle she most often drives parked in. Then organize the toys in the other garage.

Doesn't get any simpler than this.

Plan on 12' ceilings in your new garage so you can add a mid-rise lift or park an RV in it.
Man cave and toys go in new garage, daily drivers go in the old garage.

Unless it's a collector anything with 4 wheels sits outside or in the garden shed, your milage may vary.

I always thought that is why vehicles are painted

I agree with you, cars/truck in origanal garage, bikes and everything else in the new garage.

Then I would look real hard at those plans and try to figure out another way to access the house from the new garage other than through a bathroom.
