Pathetic?

RE: Pathetic?
Seems a lot of us had long trips on our old Sportys back in the day. The first summer I had my Ironhead (1982) it went to Colorado and back and even my dealer didn't believe it until I showed him the service record from the HD dealer in Boulder. Would I do it again, you bet, an Electra Glide would be great, I'd pass on the Sporty this time around.

I've done a bunch of long trips over the years. Nothing quite like saddling up the Ultra, Road King or what have you and hitting the highway. Talk about getting free!! A coast to coast trip is very doable. An Ultra or EG Classic is the best thing going for road trips. JMHO

RE: Pathetic?
I'm confused, what's pathetic?? So you asked the guy how far he had ridden one way, that day he had gone 50 miles. There is many times I'm at the gas station 3 miles from home and my answer would be 3 miles to that question.
Now if you would have asked, "Have you taken any long rides?" and he said, "Oh yeah!! I went 50 miles once." Now that would have been pathetic. Of course it's pathetic to wonder if an Ultra can go across country.
I'm calling BS on this story.

Since I was 14 and hitched a ride on a 2-wheeler I've dreamed of owning one. Well it has taken several break-ups and a divorce and the discard of other priorities that I've finally attached my butt to a Harley. I could onlyafford something used (previously pampered) and was blessed with a 2000 FXD Superglide.
I don't know how many of u folks are familiar with a '70's book called
"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", but I have connected with this mechanical device.
And more relative to the topic- I am an "Old Man-New Rider", but I feel
confident enough to make a trek to the West Coast (Yuma+60mi) from
Greenville, N.C. If it takes me 2 weeks, that's okay. 'Cause as we all know "It 's not about the destination, but the "ride"."
And please don't take this statement to assume that I am totally oblivious to the perils of highway travel. I knowmy limitations and abilities and aware of "what if's". If not now; When??

RE: Pathetic?
You are right, Specks. If not now, when. But please get a Harley Maintenance Manual and not go by Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. The bike in there was a BMW. Great book though. Ride safe.
