I was just talking to a gentleman with a beautiful FLHTCU and while admiring hisHarley I asked him how far he had riddn his bike one way. His answer shocked me. He said Sacramento -about 50 miles from where he lives.
My question is: Is this a good bike to go LONG DISTANCE on? I am planning a cross country ride from the San Francisco bay area to Charleston West Virginia soon. Has anybody gone that long on this model bike and if so how did everything work out?
I'm not buying this bike for strictly around town and local jaunts only- although I will be doing that too. This bike will be my everyday 365 days / year ride. (My wife hasthe cage)

I did 600 miles last Saturday, and another 600 on Monday. Felt great both days...I know I can ride this bike 500-600 miles a day and never think twice about it.
I have a 2006 Ultra Classic. Added Highway pegs, and a gelpad/sheepskin pad and I am good to go.

I've done 400+ in a day on my FXD as you see it below in the pic (plus my W&M bags). Have also taken it camping on solo overnighter in northern Arizona. No problems riding distance. Just a bit sore at the end of the day. Nothing a cold one can't cure.
As far as the Ultra...my buddy rides one with his wife, and I (ssshhhh, secretly) admire his "geezer glide". It's a beautiful bike and they look extremely comfy on it. Lots of power and space. Plus, when my right hand is going to sleep on the throttle, I look over at'em and he's on frickin' cruise control, listenin' to the tunes!
I think I would be hard pressed tothink of a better bike for the trip you are talking about.

Any Harley will make the trip with no problem. The Electraglide seems to be the favorite. I rode my old 883c 435 miles round trip with no issues. May ride my 1200 to Arkansas in a few weeks.
