I think most love the old school rides, and old school customs. It's the price of acquiring such things I don't like. If you want an old shovel, pan, etc you are paying top dollar. Want a custom chopper/bobber you are paying top dollar. The difference is back in the day people were making these bikes on the cheap and helping each other to make them cooler, faster, better, what ever. You can still do it yourself, but I don't think it's the same.

I love the look of the 60s style bikes with the extended forks and extended exhaust and the tall sissy bar. I want to get a newer bike and make modifications to it to make it look more this style. I joined the forums to get some ideas and advice on it, but so far haven't seen too many people doing this style.

I love my modern day bikes for comfort and reliability but the old school stuff still holds a spot in my heart. My son in his mid 20s has a shop and devotes a lot of time to the Old School Choppers. Here is one of his, stroked 74 Shovelhead in a Jammer Frame. This one is a rider, it will keep u with my TC 96 on the interstate all day. Has been ridden from MS to the Giddy Up chopper show in New Braunfels TX, Ridden from 480 mile MS to OK and back, ridden to NC as well as to many weekend trips in MS, AL to count

On Christmas Day he received word that he is in the final 25 of builders for Peoples Choice and the last invited builders spot for Born Free 9 in CA
http://www.bornfreeshow.com/
The Peoples Choice is run by Show Class Magazine where these top 25 builders will be narrowed down to 13 in March by internet and Instagram voting. From there judges will narrow the list to the top 6 who will travel to CA. The day before Born Free 9 starts those six will be narrowed down to 1 builder who will get his bike in as the last invited builder to Born Free 9.
For this Build he is doing a 53 Pan he picked up a while back in an Amen Savior frame that he recently ran across. He will go with a 22 over Springer on Invader Wheels. Here is a pic where he has pieced together some of the parts into the frame while he was getting ideas on the direction he will go. He just finished blasting the frame down to metal and has started the process of molding the frame. Oil feed and return will be molded into the frame. All parts will be either built in the shop or be survivor parts. A lot of the bike from the mock up pic will be different as he was using may parts in the shop just to sit in/on the frame for ideas. I know the bars, seat, oil bag in the pic will not be on the final result. Seat will have a similar line, oil tank he is building to flow with the frame. Basically the frame, drive train, forks and wheels are about all that will be in the final bike
This is one he has just finished, not a chopper but a ground up restoration of a Triumph ( I think it was either a 69 or 70) with some frame fab

I will always prefer the old school stuff. My daily ride is a hardtail shovel that I still kickstart but my old body is pretty beat up from them over the years. My back is shot and my knees are bad. For those reasons I have a Road King for the longer rides in comfort. I'm married to the shovel, till death do us part but the cushy mistress gets traded in now and then for one with less miles.
