When the fuel is very low like a 1/4 tank . Turn the key to on and listen to hear a hissing sound that stops after about five seconds. At the same time you can be looking into the tank with a flashlight to see gas spraying or gas moving around . This happens because the corrugated hose rubs the top of the tank and wears a hole in it .
If this is the problem , when installing the new hose cut a 3" piece from the old hose and put it on the new hose with very small zip ties to protect it from getting a hole in the same spot .

A pin hole in the inline fuel line can cause a loss of fuel pressure.
Sometimes it becomes more obvious as the fuel gets below the line in the tank because the fuel around the line provides a little resistance to leak.
As the hole becomes larger it will become more obvious during high fuel demand times like starting, starting from stop or highway speeds.
It is somewhat common.
Just google harley internal fuel line leak and see all the pictures of the accodion looking hose.
Seems to occur due to rubbing of hose.

I've had to replace mine. It would 'hiccup' when accelerating and randomly at cruising speed. Turned out, I had a small pin hole in the line where it was rubbing against the inside of the tank. Dealer wanted me to replace the entire assembly.
Got it fixed thanks to this thread:

Just replace the hose .
But you can only buy the hose with the metal end that screws into the tank .
Also when putting the quick connection together at the tank be gentle. Grease the male end a little.
And if you do pinch the O ring and develop a gas leak / drip at the fitting. You will need a 2x10 metric VITON o ring part # 9263K174 from Mc Master Carr .com

Technically supposed to uses 5/16" - but that size is too damn hard to fit over the fittings
And use the good hose clamps (SS crush type)

Forgot to add:
Also change the gasket..., the 12 screws (least there 12 on mine) holding in the fuel pump..., and the fuel sock (just a little added insurance to be on the safe side)
And while you're in there - if your fuel guage is off (who's insn't) adjust the float so it closer to accurate
