How do you install a Trim ring on an FLHX grrr
So I bought the french trim ring for my FLHX and though no big deal I can do this. I get home and read the directions. Once I get it on there is a 1/2 gap is maybe a 1/4 inch gap at the bottom of the ring and it won't go any farther back due to the fairing. The parts guy said something about need a torx bit so...am I supposed to loosen the headlight evenly on all points, but washers or something to fill the area where the torx bolts that hold the head light bucket on are unscrewed and then put the trim ring on? That is the only way I can see to take up the space at the bottom. I surely can't move the fairing.
Thanks

You have to loosen the screw at the bottom of the original trim ring so that the new ring will go around the old ring. I just put one on my EG Classic.

Was there a gap at the bottom between the light and ring? I did what you said and had a large gap between the headlight and ring. They may have given me the wrong one. What part number was on yours?

I got it on but put shims between the bolts holding the headlight bucket on to bring it out a little. They are tight so it shouldn't be an issue. I added one more bolt just because. THere is one hole HD did not use.

They are junk!! Had my headlight ring off the scoot and on the bench, and it still wouldnt fit right, still had the gap!!! Took it to the Harley Shop and had the tech mess with it and they couldnt get it to fit right. This is all with the visor style. Switched to the French style and same thing. Another tech came in and said "thats as good as they get, they all have the gap". Returned it and bought one from J&P and fits great and they are seamless.
Heres some threads with alot more peeps that couldnt get them to fit. Some peeps can live with the gap and seam, not me. Looks cheap.....

Read the installation instructs carefully. I didn't and installed it wrong.
Even correctly there will be a gap however. Part of the gap can be taken up if your headlight is out of adjustment. Mine was way off. So much for dealer prep.

Yes I had purchased, or pulled off a junkyard XJ, another dash trim that
already had been trimmed a little and kept mine stock in case I needed to
put the original radio in. I used the original radio bracket with my Alpine radio. Too cheap to buy a kit and luckily I had purchased the wiring adapter years before getting the Alpine.
Thanks
