You don't counter steer a bicycle. And you don't counter steer the motorcycle below 10 mph. How fast did you go on your bicycle as a kid?

Basically, you steer a bicycle and you counter-steer a motorcycle. In fact that is the problem (if there is a problem). Many motorcycle drivers try to drive the motorcycle like a bicycle.

Yes, everything looks simple now but that is testimony to the multitudes of good information shared by many different posters!
Clearly you've never raced road bicycles, try flying around a 90 degree corner at 30 MPH or a bomb a curve as you decent a mountain pass at 50+ mph steering your bicycle and get back to me....

The post I quoted did not say racing bicycles. The post I referred to said that "if you rode a bicycle as a kid". As kids we did not go over 10-15mph on bikes, most of us anyway. We did not need to counter-steer at those speeds.

No I am not wrong. As kids we shifted our weight and leaned our body to maneuver the bike, we did not counter-steer. For a bicycle those were good habits, for a motorcycle they are bad habits because we know that you can not lean a motorcycle, at speed, by shifting your weight. You can maneuver a motorcycle by shifting your weight and leaning your body IF YOU SLOW DOWN, which is what a lot of motorcycle drivers do, because that is what they did when they rode their bicycles years ago.

I can't even remember what I did as a kid - I'm glad someone I never met does
Thanks

Mike,

You are new here but go back and read some old 'counter steering' threads. You will see that some people, that also don't understand counter steering, believe that they change direction, regardless of speed, by 'shifting their weight', not counter steering.

How many years has it been since you've ridden a bicycle?

You don't really have to be going that fast on a bicycle to countersteer. Around 10mph I could do it. I never really thought about it, it was just intuitive, muscle memory kind of thing. So when I went out and got on my bicycle to try it, I was like yup, I've been countersteering all this time. It's amazing something so simple and demonstrable causes so much debate.

Maybe counter steering worked on a bicycle , don't matter, it def is the only way to get a motorcyce to lean / turn . That Keith Code u tube video says it all ....
