Default Upgrading my Exhaust Advice Sought

[/B][/B][/B]I just bought a new 2016 Fatboy S and I want to change out my exhaust. Is it OK to do this before the break in service? I have about 150 miles on my bike. I was wanting to go with the Vance & Hines big shots or longshots as they might be called, when I saw the Rinehart cross backs. I want it to be as deep and loud as possible deep sounding a lot of bass but very loud. So I had planned to go with no baffle. I did notice that some people say there is a torque issue. I also plan to change out the screaming Eagle air intake for a K&N high performance intake Kit model 63–1134. (And put my bike on the dyno). Does anyone have any advice for me about something I'm not thinking of? And which exhaust should I go with the Vance & Hines Big shots or the Rinehart cross backs? Thanks!!!

First of all, welcome to the forum and congrats on the new ride.
Changing the exhaust by itself won't affect break in. Since I have no experience with Rineharts (and there are many owners here that swear by them). But I've had V&H products and I think they are overpriced for what you get. Just my opinion.

Thank you for your response and reading my post. What kind of exhaust would you recommend as a good value? Bearing in mind that I want it deep & loud (the exhaust)

Exhaust sound is very objective, that's why there's so many different types and sounds.

My suggestion: Go to a Harley Dealer on a Saturday morning (or a group ride) and listen to the bikes as people pull in.
Find a sound you like and ask the owner questions.

You will not find the sound you're looking for by us telling you what we think sounds good.
Good Luck!

I agree. Inferior products with brilliant marketing.

With a 2 into 2 system you will definitely loose some torque down low and if you take the baffles out you'll loose even more along with the pipes having a tinny or hollow sound that's not very appealing. The OEM intake that's on the bike is a high flow intake so you're not gaining anything by changing it out other than looks. Putting the bike on the Dyno just for a "Stage 1" upgrade is also just throwing your money away. If you're planning on any engine mods, either buy a tuner such as the Fuelpack 3 that you can use to Auto-tune the bike and allow for any future upgrades or go with something simple such as the X-ieds that will only adjust the fuel/air ratio. Neither of these will be as good as a Dyno tune but it'll get the bike really close to where it needs to be and more than adequate for a "Stage 1".

You may need to install a SE tuner.

I did V&H BSS with quiet baffles, HD SE air filter, HD race tuner and a dyno run at my dealer. It has some burble at down throttle but runs great and nice and deep with no tiney sound. The quiet baffles actually sound better and deeper than the regular baffles that cam with the pipes.

If you look around you can get really good buys on V&H pipes, far less then retail/MSRP and what other places want (check Eastern Performance on eBay, or others on eBay for good deals). I bought a Fuelpak FP3 for my Fat Boy and decided on V&H for the pipes. My opinion is that they aren't inferior to other products out there and generally get favorable reviews and have good support if you need it. I would def. recommend a tuner either way.

Be sure to consider a 2in1 pipe as well. I think you will be happy with V&H if you decide on them but be sure to research all options and look around for the best deal.

Deep rumble? 2-1 all the way! Better performance, too. 2-2 systems are all about style; especially those Crossbacks! For what they want for them, I'd expect them to look, fit and perform immaculately, as well.
