Default Vinyl seat repair...

So, for some reason my seat has decided to separate at the seam about a third of the way down the seat on the right side.(Approximately 2-3 in length) The fabric backing is still intact, just the vinyl separated from the backing. The bike is a 2011 SG so there is no warranty. It's kept in the garage unless I'm at work and I condition the seat religiously.( South Texas sun is no joke)

Can't figure out what caused this... just wondering if I should try to repair it, get it recovered or ride it like it is until I can afford a new seat?

What say you fellas and ladies? Anyone ever had good luck out of repairing their seat themselves?

Get it recovered, there is no repair for yours. Get leather next time, a world of difference.

I'm guessing that it's vinyl... it's the stock seat so whatever it is that Harley covers them with.

Yeah, it's vinyl. I had 2 that separated the same way. One seat was less than a year old.

A seat maker told me to use leather conditioner without fail once a month, even on the vinyl seats. The conditioner keeps the stitching from drying out and tightening which causes the leather or vinyl to tear.

before you give up on the seat and have it recovered or replaced. You really don't have much to lose if it doesn't work out.

If you like your seat take it to a saddle shop.
He'll use the old cover as a pattern and make you a nice, new, comfy leather seat.

OEM is vinyl. Leather not only looks good but is also more comfortable.

Appreciate the responses. I tried to go by an upholstery shop this morning, evidently he likes to ride on Saturday too as he was closed.

Going to try to repair it, even if it's just temporary, until I can get by his shop or find a saddle maker as was mentioned in a previous reply.

Thanks again.

Before

After

I tried the repair kit on it.... yeah... found a guy locally that could recover it for $80. Pretty nice work.

Thanks again for all the replies.
