In a word....Posing!
Lets face it, I'm a squat littlefellow and not too hot in the looks department either, however with a good looking bike like a harley between your legs you could be Steve Mcqueen. When I'm cruising down the road or blatting down the motorwayI,m the one getting all the envious looks from the men and the "I wanna be with you" looks from the women. (In my sordid little mind anyway).

When cars pull up alongside and the driver says " Nice bike" I say "Thanks", smile, and give him an extra rumble of the exaust as I pull away.
Like I say, I dont think there is not one of us who has'nt checked yourself out as you pass a large plate glass window!
Regards
AJ

Its just about who I am, who i've always been. I always had a deep sense that riding was for me. I ride H.D.s for the same reason. I started ridin at 10 on a rupp roadster and KNOWING that 1 day Id be on a harley. And thats what its been for the last 25yrs. For me its not about fitting in like so many of the riders I meet on the road, its not about ego, its not about seeking ANYONES approval on ANYTHING. I dont judge others for their choices in return. Ride what you want, ride how you want, fast, slow. however you want as long as you are in the wind and free, RIDE ON!!!

Freedom and Power! The only time I go fast is to hear my pipes, then I slow down, speed up, slow down....

For me its a family tradition. My grandfather owned a harleyMy Dad owned a harleyand now me and my two brothers own harleysas well. Its hard to explain the feeling of being on a back road and just being able to feel and smell the road as you rumblealong.Whether it is Riding with my brothers or riding alone. It is mental therapy. Its what keeps me from going insane so to speak.

I bought a Harley for the history and for the "old skool" feel of the bike. That's why I also have a Bonneville. The most beautiful motorcycles ever made were made in the 30's,40's and 50's. Only some Harleys,Triumphs and Royal Enfield come close to capturing the beauty of those earlier bikes.
And the fact they are reliable and don't leak oil all the time now is a definite plus!

Why I ride? After 20 years not owning a bike it was time for a change. Within 4 months I had two. I've never looked back. Freedom, solitude, stress relief. It's all there.[sm=biker2.gif]

Everything you all said! Bought a bike before I got a car when I got my license. Dad knew nothing about bikes, but let me use his car for dates. I alway knew Harley was tops, and I still can't believe how perfect this Wide Glide is. Now 57, and can't wait to go out every morning, and every night.

Riding a Harley is about so many different things for me. It has been in my blood since birth. My family is a Harley family. Brother has a Wide Glide (I bought my Fatboy off of him too), Uncle has a Wide Glide, Brother-in-law and Sister have a Road King, I have my Fatboy. So I have the family tradition. But when I was 4 years old, my mom met the guy who raised me, and who I call my father. He may not be by blood, but he is in my heart. He was a Harley man his entire life. We lost him 4 years ago to cancer (He had just turned 75). I wear his helmet (which is no ordinary helmet by any stretch..it's pretty wild looking)..and that means a lot to me. Went and visited his grave the other day...wanna talk about a surreal feeling. Pulling the Harley up on the graveyard, taking his helmet off, walking over to his grave, kneeling down and cleaning off the headstone of the man who shaped me and made me who I am...cleaning the dirt off of the Harley that is engraved into his headstone. As I ride down these curvy mountain roads and the bike is popping and cracking, talking to me...I imagine what it must have been like for him, and all of the other old bikers riding through these hills back in the 40's and 50's, and how I am carrying on that tradition in the name of my father.

been riding since 1958, I ride because I enjoy it, even in the rain I enjoy it, I ride because I can ride, I ride for the sheer pleasure of riding, myself, my motorcycle and God, we make a happy threesome. in all them years, I have never found anything that I enjoy more then a good days ride. I can't think of any other mode of transportation that would be as much fun.

I don't know why. Every ride for me is different, no matter if it is a short trip to the corner store, or a 300 mile trip to nowhere and back. It is an event that has no beginning and no end for me. I love to raise my head up when I hit a warm spot on the raod and let the sun hit me in the face. I love it when a bug just misses a soft spot on my face. I love to ride along side of a bird thaty happens to be right where I am at that exact same moment. I love to hear the echo of both sets of pipes (my wifes and mine)under a bridge, or next to some parked cars.I love the lookof a young kid as he decidesat that very moment that he too will have a HD when he gets "big."

I love to hear my son on the back of my bike ask me when he can take the MSF so he can get a license too. He says he can't wait until we can ride together, on different bikes. He hopes I will still have my current bike, so it can be his first bike.
