Help with Glacier Mtn Park
Leaving Spokane the last week of August headed for Glacier. We are shipping bikes out there. Someone has mentioned to us it would be better to go from east to west on the Going to the Sun Road. Said we would be riding on the high side of the road which is safer. Just wondering about your opinions if you have been there. We were thinking we would ride through the the park and back in a day but someone said that was almost impossible.

You got about 360 miles from Spokane to the East side of Glacier, you're not round tripping that in a day. Call the lodge at St Mary and see if you can get a couple rooms. That way you get to ride it twice if you're heading back to Spokane.
I just did East to West as part of a 2600 mile loop and Glacier was my favorite part. However, we rolled through there at 7:30am to beat the tourists, it gets NUTS through there during the day. We never got stuck behind anyone but they started flooding in there around 9am. The road itself is nearly perfect without any construction this summer so you have that going for you. Oh, and it will cost you $40 per person for the privilege of riding that 52 miles of national park...

Rode the Going to the Sun a year ago, and still have great memories.
If anyone in your party is over 62 you can get a Golden Eagle pass for free admission for up to 5 people. Good for most all the other National Parks as well, and only cost $10. Was not accepted at the Mt. Rushmore entrance, but every other National Park waived us in.
