That canvas bag is all good until it rains, then everything gets wet and the bag may even shrink...
Here's what I did to recycle my kid's school bag that he used for 6 years. These come in both vinyl and leather, but both are amazingly durable and make great swing arm or saddle bags. I hard-mounted this to my swing arm with hardware bought entirely at a store down the street from me...

These even come with rain covers in most cases or they can be bought separately.
THese bags are not available in the US, but I can get them pretty cheaply, 2nd hand, for anyone on the forum who's interested...

I already bought the canvas bag though, so I'm gonna give it a shot first to see how it goes...maybe spray some water proofing stuff on there.
