Default Gripe with HD dealer service...

I took my bike for service to some minor adds etc. etc......what I hate the most is that they look into their freaking computer and see this will take this amount of time and this will take this amount of time, by the time the job has been scoped what normally it takes a GOOD mechanic 6 hours, the DEALER says, 14 hours of labor......WTF, what hapend to charging me exactly what it takes to do the job !!!!
Just pisses me offfffff !!!!!!!!!

Dealer's will always estimate on the side that favors them. Service revenue is a huge part of every dealer's profit margin.

Maybe next time ask for a estimate instead of giving them a blank check!

Dealer quoted me 4 hours to put apes on. I watched him do it. An hour and 15 minutes later he was done. I was only charged for actual time.

What if you took the bike in for a typical 6 hour job and it took 20 hours?
Would you gladly pay for 20 hours? Of course not.

There's a reason why there's a standard service time.
Sometimes the job takes a longer time, sometimes the job takes a lesser time.

If the price was too high you shouldn't have had them do the work.
If you agreed to the quoted price then you have no reason to bitch.

This is how capitalism works. The dealer can quote you anything he wants. You get to say yes or no. If you don't like the deal he is offering, give him a counter offer, or go somewhere else. If the dealer turns enough people off, he will go out of business, as many dealers do. The dealer I use, Dudley Perkins Harley Davidson has never once played any money games with me in the 24 years I have been using them. They are the second oldest dealer in the country and still family owned and run for good reasons. They treat their customers well, and their customers stay loyal. I hope you can find a dealer or indy with as much integrity near you.

Dealers will use a flat rate schedule to bill the time it takes to do a job. Just like any factory authorized car dealer's service dept. This is nothing new.
You said they were minor adds, so consider doing work on your own bike. Or, as suggested, find a good indie and get an estimate ahead of time for parts and labor.

Since I know the service manager at the shop, I don't think he'd over estimate the time. Besides, I don't have the tools or knowledge to fix a modern Harley. In the 70s, yeah.
