My latest is a 2016 FXDLS , the 81 shovel is still here.

Ok. What is it with all these old people and their grey/white beards? It seems to be almost a requirement from the looks of the posted photos. (Full disclosure - I'm 62 and have a white beard.)

There is a simple answer to that question, when I was younger it wasn't grey white it was black as was my hair.

Same here. I was known as "Weird with a beard" when I was in my 20s, and the beard was definitely not white.
