It is my understanding they leave a pheromone scent which attracts even more ants. I'm going to go the boric acid mix mentioned and the terro. I read they hate vinegar to.
The pheromones is what keeps them coming back I've used all the above on **** ants that are a bitch to get rid of. Found a food safe poison that works best called Safer. main ingredient Diatomaceous Earth. They get it on themselves and it hardens their joints and die. They can't reproduce. The vinegar weakens the scent before long. It's a fine white powder, just sprinkle it around.

You can get a huge bag of diatomaceous earth at Walmart in the pool section... It's used as filter media.

Anybody else had this problem?
Washing the bike with "hot, soapy water" will make it nice and clean, but you gotta stop those ants from coming onboard! Are they coming up the tire walls, or the side (sorry, JIFFY)stand? If the jiffy stand is their highway, then a smear of vaseline part way u the stand should stop them. Be sure the smear goes all the way around. Maybe spray "RAID" on your frame/undercarriage.
If it's your tires, you're going to have to put up with it as you don't want to put ANYTHING on your tire sidewalls. Nothing.

Oh yeah, one last thing~
If you leave a lot of dead bugs on your bike, the ants might find them. They do a fair job of cleaning the dried carcasses, but it takes about 3 or 4 days depending on how many bugs vs. ants...

Go to your local farmers coop and buy a product called Tempo. Mix it with water in a tank sprayer. One treatment will do them in. This is what the pro's use.

We have Pharaoh ants here in Florida. They form long lines from nest to food and back. Many times down fences, up trees, down branches up a wall into the house etc.....
Best thing I've found for ants is Termidor termite spray. They take it back to the nest and everyone dies.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have found white vinegar is keeping them away from the bike. I experimented with it and they do not like it for sure. I was looking at borax, boric acid, diatomaceous earth and Terro today at the local Ace. I don't know what path they took to get on the bike but the vinegar is keeping them away, for now. Maybe it was removing the french fries out from under the seat that really did the trick. I don't mind ants because when the ants are around you won't have termites. But when they get on the bike all bets are off.
