Ant infestation on bike
#11
We've been in our home since '99 with no ant issues.
During the winter before last, we were "invaded" by ants (in the master bathroom) and folks say that they were looking for water.
I killed everyone I saw but by morning they were all over the sinks again!
I put the Terro traps under the sinks, by the shower stall, and in both closets in the bathroom and by the third day, no more ants!
The "bait and wait" method really works but you just have to be patient.

We get spring ant infestations in the houses around here every spring, when it's rainy. I use Ortho Home Defense in the house and there's an Ortho product that you spread outside your house as well. This year has been horrible. With the twenty days + in a row of rain, the damn things are getting int o everything, even my mailbox.
I recently put together a shed to store our two bikes. Not sure why I didn't think about the ants... But, I didn't.
A day or two after building the shed I went for a ride about 60 miles from home for work. I stopped about 30 miles from home to check directions. I stopped my bike in a parking lot and pulled out my phone. As I was looking at Goole Maps, I felt a tickle on my ear.... and another, and another. It finally dawned on me, the ants were in my helmet... a brand new helmet I might add! I pulled it off, peeled back the rubber at the edge of the shell and found THOUSAND of the little buggers crawling out, bring eggs, and getting all over me! They were in between the shell and liner, all along the back and up the left side (as it sits on my head). Little bastards.
I found a little concrete filled metal post, and tapped... and tapped and tapped and tapped, gently, but firmly knocking them out. The patrons of the establishment must have thought I was losing my mind. But, I eventually got the majority off and the rest seemed about dead.
Put my helmet back on and off down the road I went.
When I got home, I pulled my wife's bike out, spray every joint and place the ants might crawl with that Home Defense spray and spread dose of that other stuff outside the shed. Once dry, the bikes went back in... (not my helmet or the bikes)
Haven't seen an ant in days.

I had a similar problem a few years back. It got so bad I had to call in for re-enforcements. Captured it all on video:

James Whitmore.
Here's a bit of trivia for you Leanord Nimoy ( Star Treks Mr. Spock ) had a bit part in that movie also.

Once I heard the voice I knew it wasn't Burgess Meredith. Had to IMDB it, but it's James Whitmore.

I get those boogers in my kitchen from time to time if the rains are bad enough. the only way that I've found to get rid of them is to use 'terro' brand ant killer. you drop a couple of drops of the liquid on the cardboard squares and place them in the ant's path. there is something in it that attracts them, they take it back to their nest, and kills them all.
Well, I have to say in all my posting and reading in here you have a problem I've never seen before...
As skratch said I also have used Terro.. and its works great.. It'll take a couple day to get results
