He said you know it's funny I was always out in the garage cleaning and polishing my Harley. But my new sport bike? I have not washed it since I bought it two years ago and have never even thought about washing it..... Weird.
LOL you are my kind of guy, measures how long a chore takes by beers not minutes

I like the rituals 'round the scooter...not so much "cleaning" (and never waxing) but you cannot do maintenance or inspection to a high standard without cleaning - and while you're there you may as well do the job to a reasonable level... I clean for safety and the esthetic improvement is a lagniappe. And yes indeed, beer and appropriate medication according to the doctor's recommendations goes well with the ritual. I tend to let the bikes get mildly dirty during the time between maintenance events. Use a spraygun to "dust" the subject with diesel, then wipe down. Water where needed (bugsplats, etc) - and wipe down. Do the watery first... But I never water-wet a bike more than I must. A bit of oil in the diesel gives a nice shine.

Persig speaks to the ritual...worth reading.

In the ritual I look for incipient faults, the tiny crack in the daub of nail polish I put on a nut last time I had an axle out, for example, would indicate further and more detailed inspection, probably re-torque, etc.

I like a clean bike as much as the next rider, but I like riding it as opposed to cleaning it.

I am almost obsessed with keeping my bike clean. I have always been that way. It gets cleaned after every ride. I love the look of a clean bike.

I don't clean as much as I should. I mainly clean to get the bugs off the fairing. And when I do clean, I'm just using the Honda spray.

What makes me nervous is, getting my aftermarket 6x9's; Sony Headunit and lowers wet. So, I don't hose the bike down. A few weeks ago, I bought S-100 cleaner but haven't had time to use it yet.

One of my riding buddies is annoying with keeping his bike clean. Each and every single time that we're on a road trip and decide to pull over for gas, he'll immediately pull off to the side, pull out some Meguiars detail and will start detailing and cleaning his bike. We live in the south and ride a lot of dirty, dusty backroads. His constant cleaning drives me crazy. lol.
