Default Travelling with our dog

We plan to take our dog on a few trips this year. We have purchased a pet carrier that mounts securely to the Harley rack on the top of our tour pak. Question for those who travel with a pet. What do you do with the dog when you go into a restaurant for lunch? What has been your experience for hotel rooms? Any tips you can provide us?

We bought a sidecar for my wife's bike so we could take our dogs on trips.

Most of the motels we checked with allowed dogs, but some charged a little extra, some required an extra deposit.

We generally looked for restaurants with outdoor seating that would allow dogs.

Having the dogs with us did restrict some of the things we wanted to do, like staying in more upscale motels and eating in more upscale restaurants. We ended up eating lots of fast food, not my favorite.

I also visited the Vietnam wall in DC, but the wife had to wait elsewhere with the dogs, since dogs are not allowed there. Same with many of the other monuments in DC.

Dress your dog like a pirate. It will pass for a newbie at most biker rallies and saloons.

You could always carry a red and white cane with you when going into a restaurant.

Or......

Instead of dressing your dog like a pirate, dress it up like a parrot! I've never seen restrictions on birds and it will complete your pirate outfit. Win/win.

I road trip with my 6 pound chihuahua in his bag carrier mounted on the seat behind me. I try to eat at restaurants that have patios so that there are fewer questions asked about him sitting on my lap. Some places have given me crap but the vast majority are too busy fussing over how cute he is. The few times I want to eat at a place that has no outdoor seating, I leave him in his bag with everything but one vent closed up. He just sleeps and no one even knows he's there. If I already checked into a hotel, I will just leave him in the hotel room while I go and eat. Some hotels say not to leave the dog unattended but if it is a 6 pound dog that is quiet and well-behaved, no one will know, nor complain.

There are definitely limitations to what you can do when traveling with a dog...but having done plenty of road trips with and without him, I can say that when he's with me, I never even notice the limitations.

Photobucket is down for server maintenance at the moment but if I remember, I'll come back to post a picture of him on the bike on our last trip.

Check state laws for dog helmet requirements which will vary by state LMAO

It's going to be hard to pass as a blind man if you are riding a bike and not riding bitch.
