Yeah i can see that! California is a very trendy place. It used to be Chromed out Softail Deluxe's and apes there years ago. Now its blacked out Dyna's.. A decade from now it will be BACK to Chrome there. Its like fashion cloths goes out of style and years later comes back.

I was always about chrome, but when I bought the Wide Glide, I didn't have much of a choice in the blacked out look. Actually when I saw the bike I fell in love with it blackout and all. Since then, I've added chrome parts here and there to try and balance out the black which is still the dominant color or just to balance the bike out. I did the chrome lower fork sliders as an example to give the front end a finished look. It's just a bit less so black, and I've got more chrome pieces to add in strategic places on the bike.
Chrome might go down in popularity, but it'll never go out of style imo. The blackout phase will run it's course would be my guess. HD will probably never not have blackout bikes in the lineup, but it'll be less and far easier to get chrome bikes again. That's my only gripe, you can't get chrome on all of the models from the factory unless you buy the parts separately.

I didn't vote, I like a mix of black and chrome on my bike.
Regarding the idea that chrome is harder to keep clean: My wife and I only have one car between us, so my bike is a daily rider. It hasn't been washed since September. The blacked out parts look way dirtier than the chrome parts.
This is a pic from last fall, it's not this clean now.
