Default Battery Blues

Well my battery started to sound week on my 98 Fatty so I thought I would just go down to the Autozone and pick one up for it. Too easy right? WRONG! I got the battery and filled it with the acid, then left there on the charger for about 10 hours. Well I get back, regretting not buying a sealed Gel HD Battery, and put the new battery in. My alarm went crazy. So finally i got my money back (LUCKILY!) and put the old Batt back in. Now Im just going to get the right one. HD all the way! My question is do i need to have it on a charger for 24 hours? or is it out of the box charged? Im ordering it online since my dealer is pretty far. Thanks alot!

Ya I wouldnt go anywhere near a OEM battery for a HD... Go with a HD brand Battery and save yourself a lot of headache.

Unless you have a way to read full charge,Charge it! Do Not overcharge and use a battery tender from then on.You will be glad you did.

Can't believe you can still buy a battery and have to put your own acid in it ! The Health and Safetynannys over here would have a fit.

Go with the gell type and if you accidently drop your bike at least you will not have corosive acid puring all over the engine and frame.

That sounds just like the story my friend has. The only difference is that he is low on cash and won't be able to go on his own poker run because he can't get a new HD battery.
