Default No mess oil filter change

No need for an expensive molded piece of plastic to catch oil spillage while changing your oil filter. I just re-use a piece of aluminum foil to catch and drain oil into a larger drain pan.

Default No Mess Oil Change

I use plastic place mats and cut them to the useable size with a small indent for the oil filter mount. I also punch holes in the filter at 12 and 6 o'clock and let it drain all night. In the morning when I unscrew the filter, NO oil drains down from the filter. Takes a little more time but worth it.
The pieces of place mat go under the filter and let it drain into a small bucket.

I guess I am just old school.I just slide a drain pan under filter, replace it and then spray area down with brake clean.Easy Peasy plus it cleans the road grime off the lower front of engine.

I use the oil spill rags .My son gives me some he is in oil burner repair. I put one under bike, pull filter and wipe up excess.Usually only lose a little so you can tear off spot where oil dripped and use rest of rag next time. I make more of a mess trying to fit something under filter .Believe me I tried everything I am better off removing filter and lifting it as soon as its off .
