At some point in time, the Harley Davidson design team sat down and concepted how to mount the sportster side cover, I imagine it went something like this.....

Design Lead - Alright guys, what ya got?

Tom - Double sided tape!

Design Lead - no no, to complicated

Mike - Super glue!

Design Lead - no no, to pricey

John - 2 bolts in the frame?

Design Lead -............. shut the F__K up John.

Bill - I got it! Pop-In........Plastic..........Clips

Nothing screams quality American manufacturing like having to zip tie a factory part.

 

OK, Glad thats off your chest. Maybe the Sportster forum could assist you with your side cover problem. Had a 2009 that had a side cover attachment problem,but Harley came out with a upgraded attachment clip that solved that.

if it makes you feel any better, I have a friend with a Shadow and he lost one on the highway.. he just watched it go..

 

I know there's a problem with the Sporty ones,but they've been using them on the baggers since the '80's without a problem. I wonder why.?
