ORIGINAL: Hackd

ORIGINAL: airjoe...I ride solo about 95% of the time. I just replaced the rear at 20,000.
About right. I usually get between 16K-18K on a rear tire (stock Dunlops). I've gotten into the habit of just replacing both of them at the same time..Hell, I got the bike on the stand anyway.
Holy crap. you must be light as a feather, I'm 220. I just had my stock dunlop 160 replaced at 9100 mi. Although I could have gotten maybe 500/1000 more, MAYBE, but with myrtle beach and laconia comin' up I wanted to get ready for the rain, just in case. An indy charged me 161 for the tire and 40 for install and balance, Checked bearings, put on anti-sieze on the axle (which was a biaatch to get out) and of course adjusted belt tension. All is well now

So how are some people getting well over 10,000 on the same factory tires???? I don't ride all that aggressively.......maybe the hot pavement here in AZ??? Nobody I talk to here gets over 10,000 on any tire???? I had good luck with Michelins on my last bike....lasted over 8,000 and still had some stickiness to it......Metzlers were great but they cost more and did not last very well. Guess I'll just stick with the stock Dunlops.......thanks for the other recomendations and prices....

a local stealer service dept. manager (and friend) told me he even tried metz and switched back to dunlops.he said thatwas about 6 years ago. i'm confused about what to get next and I'm due a set within the next 1,000 miles.

I always say I am going to go with the Metzlers, but it just ends up being easier to just let the stealer put on the Dunlops. I average between 8-10,000 miles for both front and back. I can live with this because I accelerate hard and I brake even harder!! Anyways, when there are two patches on the ground keeping me from death, I suppose I dont sweat it! Especially since I'm ridin' on a 21 inch Pizza Cutter!! [8D]

Changing my rear soon and I average over 10,000. I have 11,000 miles on my second one and it has about 20% left on it.
