Ethanol caused engine problems?

RE: Ethanol caused engine problems?
Are you sure you did not pump E85 in error. Its 85% & I would think it would run badly. Or the station could of filled their tanks with it in error. A few months ago this happen locally - they put diesel in the unleaded tank. In Minnesota almost all of the gas has corn in it. I have found 2 stations that carry real gasoline. The pumps say "for off road, collector cars, motorcycles, etc. only. Your service manual for your bike and cage says up to 10% is ok but it can't be good if they have to limit the amount. Also, alcohol has 50% of the BTUs that gas has I think that translates into 5% less milage.

Well I don't think it was E85, since I don't remember even seeing that here in Arizona. The ethanol sure does limit your milage too, as you say. My sister and brother-in-law ran out of gas just outside of Yuma, running a tank ofSan Diego ethanol. They had been expecting our normal 45+mpg, but got much less.

Ethanol 10% has 120,900btu
Gasoline has 125,000 btu per gal.
Less than a 3.3% difference energy wise .
I've never had any problems with the 10% mix , been using it for yrs here in the corn belt .
