On a related note: Do valet parking lot attendants park motorcycles? Lots of places only have valet parking.

I was staying at a hotel in vegas the valet had me unload the bike then he walked along side to open the garage door and tell me where to park he had me park it in between to suport colums where it was protected. He said that the hotel will not allow them to "touch" motorcycles. I was fine with that.
I had a 53 Chevy P/U as a teenager(starter button) on the floor. If I got a wierd feeling about the valet I would tuyrn off the truck. They would not figure out how to startit so they would give up and let me park it right out in front.

Several years ago, I was at a college for something. The parking lot was almost full and there was only one space remaining. I figured I would let a vehicle have that space as I don't need that much space. Likewise, I certainly don't need a driver to swing in there and hit the bike. Most lots have wasted space....so I decided to park next to some sort of sign there. As I was getting off the bike, the campus police came up to me and told me to move the bike. I cannot park there.
He said, because it is not a designated parking space. He also said that they are not responsible for accidents. I told him....just say the bike was in a designated parking space and later I find my bike to be hit. The driver simply drove off. I then said, you still say you are not responsible for it and sorry about that. He responded to saying yes.
I told him, if the above situation happened.....I would have sued the campus for negligence for not preventing the accident. One designated parking space just for motorcycles would have prevented the accident and would have prevented a lawsuit. He had no comment.
I rode through there awhile back....and guess what? They have designated motorcycle parking in lots throught the campus.

I was out riding with a friend one day and we were doing a little bit of Christman shopping. We went to the local mall and parked in that yellow roped off area. There are lots of reasons we do this, being more visible, convenience, saving spots for cars.
A rent-a-cop came out and told us we couldn't park there. We didn't argue. We just moved our bikes to a parking spot. It was a convience for us that we were able to park in two spots open right next to each other. What kind of irony is it that two bikers riding together park in spots next to each other rather than one spot for the two of them?
The rent-a-cop came walking by as we were taking off our gear. He asked us why we didn't park in the same spot. We just told him that we had as much right as anyone else to our own spots.

Until recently, that was akin to the city of Chicago's rule for parking bikes. Parallel to the curb! Someone finally woke up and thought, hey, we could get them to park perpendiclular and fit more. Genius!
