Custom paint and resale

Custom paint and resale
Hi,
Although I am not thinking about selling it for a long time, I am considering an airbrush design on my deep cobalt blue paint on my 2000 Fatboy. One of the designs I am considering is a lightning and cloud design, considering Central Florida is the lightning capital of the world.
One of the reasons I want to do it is because the guy who owned my bike before me was a judge in an antique motorcycle association and did extensive customizing on the bike down to the chrome swingarms.
I was thrilled about it until yesterday. I pulled up to Orlando Harley to get a few items and one of the salesman asks, "Did you buy Hank's Fatboy?" I replied, "I guess so, i got it at another dealer on a trade." I am thinking it might be nice to do some of my own customizing and was wondering if a custom paint job could hurt the resale if it isn't too radical, or possible even help?

RE: Custom paint and resale
I like a good custom paint job, but from an artwork standpoint. I'd never buy another guy's work of art. I'd have my own done.
I hate airbrushing over stock paint. IMO, it looks cheesy. I would never buy a bike with it, unless the price was cheap enough for me to get the bike repainted.

I've had some custom paint done on my bike, I plan to ride it until it's wore out anyway, in my opinion, if deep down inside you think you will trade soon I would not mess with it,(alsogood paint is NOT cheap) if not then go fer it!

I will never again have an expensive paint job.The last muscle car we had done the first month out, getting ready to do a carnuba wax,the nicks and dings were everywhere. It is just not worth the worry and agony of the damage. Now we have great looking utilitarian paint, much more easy to deal with.
