RE: The "I own my bike outright" poll...
I still got 4 years to pay on mine. " Afford "is a loose term that means different things to other people. The concept of If I cant pay cash for it I cant afford it doesnt apply to me. Im not going to save 3 years to buy something that I want now just to save a few hundred dollars in financing charges.I know if I went full term on the loan it would be thousands in finance charges.I makedecent money and If I can AFFORD to finance it and make monthly payments on it I will. Sure, I pay them off early and avoid intrest as much as Possible. It would be more interesting to see how many of theCash payers have a Credit Card or 2 with balances or Home depot Cards , Lowes etc.

Bought Susie outright.....had the money in the bank, so got a bank check for the amount, and gave it to the dealer and rode her home about 30 minutes later.....
Currently paying on my Dad's 883, but it will be paid for quick, as I will double up payments. Didn't want to finance the Sporty, but I wanted my Dad to have it now, for the summer to enjoy....hell, life is short, and I know I will have it paid for QUICK!

Cash. For once, all the stars lined up right at the same time. Severance pay from a job I was going to leave anyways, stocks went up, and sold a townhouse that was paid for free & clear. So after socking away enough for my son's education and a chunk down on our current house, my wife "suggested" that I take whatever amount I needed for whatever bike I wanted.

Ifinanced mine back in '01 with HD financing then paid it off 6 months later. Pretty much wiped out my savings acct. Just wanted to "own" it. Sure is nice having my name on the title.
