The "I own my bike outright" poll...
#271
This recent stir of some people not being able to afford thier bikes has got me thinking. I am just curious as to how many people own their bikes outright as opposed to making payments on it. I own mine as does Scootergrrl. How about you? And know this is in no way meant to make anyone feel less than someone else. We'll take care of you folks as much as we can...

Call me nuts or whatever but started a little financial discipline many years ago. Kept nice but older vehicles for a fair amount of years and "saved" for the future purchases. Got my first new vehicle at the age of 38 and paid cash. Then I continued saving for the next time I wanted a new vehicle. People today want it all now though. If they make 50,000 a year, they feel or want to spend it all if not even more. This kind of thinking is only setting folks up or diaster. One lay off, unexpected major expense or whatever and then kaboom.
This is a large part of why we are in financial hard times now. Why are we bailing out so many Institutions> It might be because so many folks have bad or horrible credit, or the worse, bankruptcies. And we never cry about the rest of America bailing these folks out. As I speak to younger folks, I try to get the point across........You can play now and pay later OR pay now and play later. Glad I choose years ago to pay then play.
Gladly in the past few years, Ive bought a 2005 Lexus, 2006 Ford Lariat, 2008 Ford Lariat, 2006 Deuce, 2007 Yamaha Grizzly, and a 2009 Ultra. All bought new and with cash. And please don't take this as a brag or that I was in some brainy, high paying job. Just an exMarine, retired cop without a single day of college behind me and 24 years in the Reserves. Wife, a low paying school secretary. Just a "Joe the Plumber" guy that always worked several jobs at a time, and lived well under my means to enjoy life later.
Pardon the rant, and love ya all.

With they way the economy is I'm glad I'm making payments on my bike.
Only had it a year.
I prefer to use the banks money on vehicles.
I would rather spend cash on strippers!

Although my bike is a 2000 model RKC, when I bought it just over a year ago it only had 203 miles on it. It had been sitting in a garage for 7 years...still pretty much a brand new bike. I paid cash for mine because I didn't want any payments. The only payment I have is my house payment which is the way I like it.

Still got a couple of years payments left on mine. But I'm curious as to how many that paid cash used cash from a home Refi to do it. which means they in reality are making payments to pay off the bike.
Just curious.
