Bought a new 1100 Shadow in 1997, because the Shadow was smoother, quieter, more troublefree (at the time), and half the price...sold it a few months ago, paidcash for the Harley!

I put 5000 dollars down and the rest is financed. You are going to die one day so enjoy it while you can.

Those who say they can take it off their taxes because they got a home equity loan might be mistaken. I believe that you can only take it off your taxes if you use the money for home improvments.

For some reason I have been watching this thread.

It's a bunch of bull saying that if you can't buy it cash you shouldn't buy it. Anything well planned for can be done. I paid for half and financed the rest. The other money which I did have and still do have isheld for other things. Like getting laid off or emergancies. I like having the cash on hand, I pay off high interest loans first, and if I am comfortably making payments on a very low interest loan that is good with me.

I've had a hard life and sturggled to get where I am. I support a 4 person family and I'm paying for my kids college. I live for today with an eye on the future. I owe on little enough that when I want something , even if I have to finance for a short time, I can do it.

Paying something off may seem like a badge of honor, but it really all depends if your keeping up other things too..

When a person dips into retirement or other investments so they can pay "cash", they have paid a dear price and don't even know it..
