Default helmet

Thinking about tryin a different helmet. Currently wearing a hd 1/2 with the visor removed(not very confy, little too small). I am wondering if I purchase a shield for my half helmet, will it reduce or increase buffeting? How about 3/4 helmet?

3/4 for me. The best deal I've found (other than paying $200 or $300) is the HJC CL-33. Got one for about $100. The HD Jet II is another good one for about $150 (It is made by HJC). The HJC has good vents better than the Jet II. Other than these, you'll have to up the cost to get into Shoei or the other top of the line helmets.

A shield on a 1/2 helmet is not a good idea. Certainly having multiple helmets is a good idea in my opinion. I live in Az. where summers are HOT. I wear a 1/2 around town in summer only. The rest of the year and on trips year round I wear a Nolan full face. The thing I like about my Nolan is that the entire face and chin bar flip up for those times when I am in slower traffic I can increase the airflow.

Take a look at KBC helmets, either a full-faced or 3/4. When I'm not wearing a half helmet, my KBC is very comfortable. DOT and Snell approved, about $150.00 from a metric[:-] dealer.

I have a Nolan N42 and really like it. Built in face shield & sun shield. Out of all my helmets it is my favorite, light & comfortable. It is a good idea to try one on before buying to get correct size and to see if it fits the shape of your head.

I have the CL-33 also, very nice helmet for under $100 - 3/4 with shield.

I never use a 1/2 helmet . . 1/2 helmet = 1/2 brain

I just bought a Shoei Platinum R 3/4 with a shield. Nice helmet, but I do get more noise and buffeting than I do with my 1/2 helmet. When it gets cold and/or rainy, I go to the Shoei X-11 FF.

A shield probably won't have much impact on buffeting. I use a long, snap-on shield on a half helmet for hot weather. You can reduce turbulence under the shield with a wind break along the inside lower edge. I use stick-on velcro to hold a leather wind break that is about an inch wide.

I use a 1/2 for around town and just ordered an ACC recently with my tax refund.

Since I don't have a windshield for longer rides (especially on the Interstate) I use a Shoei J-Wing with the flip up/down shield. It's a great helmet although it's a fairly largelooking beast. I'd recommend it to anyone although it's a little pricey.
