I don't like riding anymore...anyone wanna buy an 883?
JUST KIDDING! Just got home from a 63 mile ride, longest I've done so far. Would have gone more but the bike isn't too comfy yet. Best day so far this year in Chicago, 77 and not a cloud in the sky!

But seriously, If you just do get sick of it and need to get that bike off your hands, just because I'm a nice guy I'll give you $1000 for it.

I did 2 semi long rides on Sportys. One500 mile (round trip) on a 2000 883c the other was 150 (round trip) on a 2004 883. Both times I was spent till I got off the bike. Thats why I ride a bagger now.

I did a ride almost twenty years ago on a Sporty from Tustin, CA to Seattle and back in a week (Corps buddy was getting married). In February. It was the most miserable ride I've ever done, but I didn't realize it until a couple years ago when I bought my RK and discovered how much better it could be.
My advice is ride the hell out of it and don't pay too much attention to anybody that says you can't ride a Sportster that way.

Nothing that a bigger tank and different seat can't cure. In Chicago, it takes about 63 miles to get away from the suburbanites! That's why you see so many baggers around here!

Decisions, decisions! Your definition of "go" is going to determine which ones you get first. For the seat, on the cheap, take a ride up to Alligator Bob's (Rt 59, by the chain) and see what he can do about restuffing/gel/reshaping. Comfy grips are a must! The stock ones work on a flat track, that's about it! For a tank, a swap meet or many indy shops have 'em laying around. For the basics on the air cleaner, swap the stock element for a K&N replacement. All in all, a lot you can do without breaking the bank.
