RE: what's the fastest you've gone on a harley?
I have been waiting for this thread. I usually cannot complete a ride without going over 100 a couple of times. I just love it. Back when my Dad was alive we would do 100 plus tandem. That's just how I was raised. If you have a fresh service, fresh brakes, fresh tires, it's no problem. THat's why I have a service plan, so that I can enjoy my bike.
But I think that you have to run through the gears if you want to go fast on a Harley. I get my best speeds 115mph when i run from 1st to 5th. A Harley needs to stay in its powerband. If you try to roll on the throttle in 5th gear; you'd better have a couple of miles in front of you.RIde Fast and SAFE!!

Got the sporty to 98 or 99, I tell people 105, but ran out of gas. That was in 93 andit was the scariest thing Ive ever felt. The bike just slammed to what I thought was a stop. I was so scared I forgot where the reserve was for a second. Never go over 75 now.

I've had mine to 110 mph for a short period of time. I was supprise at how readily it achieved the speed, but agree that 110 on a cruiser feels much faster. I prefer to cruise at around 70 mph.

i'm curious about this because a) i tried going really fast on my dyna today and just couldn't muster the nerve to go above 94 on it, and b) going fast on a harley is a WHOLE DIFFERENT WORLD compared to going fast on a sportbike. i guess it's just the greater wind resistance and buffeting, since your riding position is basically as a wind sail. i've gone a lot faster on other bikes, but just can't seem to crack "the ton" on the harley just yet...

I cruise at 80mph. I usually shift from 5th to 6th gear at around 110. It will go farther I just don't wind it. Speedometer stops at 120. Problem is the bike turns the rpms up so fast yer on 100 before you can go threw the gears.
I can be doing 70 and drop in 4th gear and start winding and I've at 90 and climbing hard in 5th gear. Haven't got to top end yet. Don't know where the bike will quit pulling at. The tighter you wind the gears the faster it runs. Still learning the new build.
