RE: Flat on turnpike at 80 mph
Goodon you for the way thibgs turned out compared to the alternatives.
Rode to work one day on my Sukuki Bandit that i had at the time. It's about 3-4 miles of local street followed by about 16 miles of interstate then city street for the last few mile. Well, hititng 100 when traffic and situaitons allowed I did my normal run up the interstate. Getitng off the exit rampI can tell something is not right. Look down to see a flat, and veyr hot, rear tire. It still had a little air in it and I nursed it off to a service station where I filled it with enough air to ride it to a bike shot who replaced the tire while I was at the office.
When you only have tow, tires are really important!

I know I'm gonna get flamed , but I prefer Dunlops , and yes , I've used several other brands

I ride year around, in all kinds of conditions (wet, dry, cold, hot), and have never had a problem.
They provide an excellent rubber compound that gives great traction and also provides good tread life.
I wouldn't even consider using anything other than Dunlops.

I've had good luck with Dunlops and been running them ever since Harley began putting them on new bikes. They used Goodyear before and I never had a flat with them either.

I've run Metzeler,Avon,Dunlop etc.. My bikes just seem to ride best with the Dunlop D402s.
The Big Dog has Avon Venoms on it but I really dont have an alternative on that one.

I had the same thing happen on the freeway... That squirrely feeling from the rear - as if you're riding in some grooves or something... When I pulled to the side of the road I realized it was a flat.
AAA tow was there in 20 minutes with a flat-bed to pick me up. This was at 5:00 PM rush-hour on a Friday too, awesome service!

Hey, I'm glad you could keep it up right and you are both safe. Your Guardian Angel was working over time on that one. In '78 I blew a rear tire at about 65 on a twisty mountain road just North of woodland, Ca. but we went down hard. No broken bones but lots of road rash. Course that was in the days of the tube tires.
