if you are in the northern regions when do you pack it up and store it?
I ride as long as I have traction. With the right gear comfort at low temperatures is a non issue. Below freezing temperatures are an issue in respect to traction though. Ice and snow are not the only issues, frost can form on the road too which causes a loss in traction, so do very cold tires.

Well, I live in Florida & I don't ride from Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day, unless it's a local rip. So, I would say below 70. Some call me a wimp, but those are the ones inside dying in front of the A/C in July when I'm out washing my truck & mowing the lawn. Love hot; hate cold.

For commuting to work, my threshold is 50. On a sunny weekend day, ill ride in the 40's but during the week i'm limited on what I can wear and it starting to be dark on my way into work doesn't help.

In Colorado I never store my bike for the winter. We tend to get a 60-70* day in the middle of each month, sometimes more than 1 per month, and I try to take advantage of those so long as the roads are in good shape.

At $110 per month for insurance (liability only, with maximum discounts available), it gets too expensive for that 2 or 3 rides I might get over the winter.
A young guy with a nice bike and full coverage, with no earned discount
could very well be sitting at $300+ per month.
wow i feel bad for you canucks if insurance is that high....

my yearly premium is $223/yr full coverage.. i just dropped my other company because they raised my premium to $265/yr (+25% increase) it was $213.

plus when i store it i take off the liability to save me some more cash.... in addition to that my agent will put the liability back on if i have a nice weekend in the dead of winter i just have to caller her and she will put the liability on or take it off.... plus she is a biker chic and she is not hard on the eyes.... maybe you should consider moving down to wisconsin... the insurance savings alone would pay for your move.

I never actually put a bike up for the winter. We always get a few warm snaps here and there that I like to take advantage of.

I bought an EG a few months ago, and that's my first full fairing bike. That will extend the season quite a bit.

The last time I said...when it gets in the 30s, I really have to be there to get out. I have ridden in 30° for 70 miles but I had to get my bike to the shop.
