So, how cold?
#11
I ride as long as I have traction. With the right gear comfort at low temperatures is a non issue. Below freezing temperatures are an issue in respect to traction though. Ice and snow are not the only issues, frost can form on the road too which causes a loss in traction, so do very cold tires.

It's not so much the cold as it is the length of days.
I left work at 330 yesterday to get a ride and dinner in before dark.
My bike gets put away on Monday.
At $110 per month for insurance (liability only, with maximum discounts available), it gets too expensive for that 2 or 3 rides I might get over the winter.
A young guy with a nice bike and full coverage, with no earned discount
could very well be sitting at $300+ per month.

my yearly premium is $223/yr full coverage.. i just dropped my other company because they raised my premium to $265/yr (+25% increase) it was $213.
plus when i store it i take off the liability to save me some more cash.... in addition to that my agent will put the liability back on if i have a nice weekend in the dead of winter i just have to caller her and she will put the liability on or take it off.... plus she is a biker chic and she is not hard on the eyes.... maybe you should consider moving down to wisconsin... the insurance savings alone would pay for your move.
