Default Marketing Genius! HD Fork Oil

I got ready to change my fork oil this weekend and after reading the manual (we all do don't we?) it says for a Dyna, drain the oil from each fork and replace with 11.5 oz. of fork oil. I figured out that it is 11.5 oz. per fork, but can you buy anything close to an 11.5 oz. bottle? Of course not. they're all 16 oz, which means after you've bought 2, used the 23 oz. that it calls for, you have a grand total of 9 oz. left, not even enough for another single fork drain/refill.

Please don't take this as a complaint, just an observation of marketing genius on the part of the MoCo.

It's not just the MoCo. Try changing the fork oil in any Metric bike, street or dirt, without buying more than you need and having less than you need to do the job again when you're done. And whatever you have left, it won't be the right amount to just buy one more bottle.

9oz. left then just buy one next time seems there should be enough for both with one bottle.

Of course HD has marketing genius. Look at all the Harley owners with their very core being of manhood/self-image wrapped up in a machine!

Would you rather pay for a little exta oil or pay more for a specific size oil container .
Injection molds are terribly expensive to make , you have to spread the cost out over the amount of containers needed . Just not enough containers needed to justify it .

Ever try to make the number of buns match the number of hotdogs that come in a package? [:@]

While I do agree this is in fact a marketing thing like the hot dog / bun conspiracy, I do wonder, what do other Harley forks require. Road Kings and Fatty's may take more fork oil and this is HDs way of providing a 1 size fits all solution. Odds are though, there is always some left over. It seems there is the potential here for a ton of waste at a time where oil is at a premium. I bet there are a lot of half filled old bottles of fork oil in garages all over the country.
