I got ready to change my fork oil this weekend and after reading the manual (we all do don't we?) it says for a Dyna, drain the oil from each fork and replace with 11.5 oz. of fork oil. I figured out that it is 11.5 oz. per fork, but can you buy anything close to an 11.5 oz. bottle? Of course not. they're all 16 oz, which means after you've bought 2, used the 23 oz. that it calls for, you have a grand total of 9 oz. left, not even enough for another single fork drain/refill.

Please don't take this as a complaint, just an observation of marketing genius on the part of the MoCo.
Did you ever consider that HD makes bikes OTHER than a Dyna that might take a differnt amount of fork oil?

Just a thought.

But I'll bet that the H-D Fork Oil is specially CERTIFIED and TESTED for the unique requirements of Harley's forks.

The dealer where I bought my bike told me to use auto. tranny fluid instead of fork oil so far so good.

You are simply not buying enough fork oil. Just do the math. I always buy 5 packages of hot dogs (40), and 4 packages of buns (40). Those guys aren't so smart. You can easily outwit them by buying a lot more the first time.

Since you just drained the forks you will use the wet fork oil ammount. If you had dissaembled the forks and cleaned the peices and them put them back together you would use the dry fork ammount of oil! There is a difference!!
And while there may not be a specific oil for just Harley forks there is a couple different oil weights. Harley strandard is arround 5 weight and Screamming Eagle is arround 15wt. The 5 weight is for the Elecrtra Glide type bikes and the SE is good for the stiffer forks like Superglides. I think the street glides also go SE. And some use a mixture of both to custom tune their forks.
And now for the quit beaching ideal. What if they sold the oil in 1 oz less than you needed bottles? So do you really want to gripe about a couple oz fof too muych oil??
I put my extra any oil in my lil squirt oil can for lubeing things arround the house/truck ect.
