Help! Front brakes dragging on rotor

RE: Help! Front brakes dragging on rotor
Sounds to me like the pistons inside the caliper are not retracting.
Not that hard of a project to take apart and look at pistons to see if cocked in their bores.
Harley sells a caliper rebuild kit that has all the needed seals. I just rebuilt my front caliper after 24,000 miles and it really improved the braking power.

Mine does this also..I usually kill my bike when I pull into my driveway and let it coast. I've noticed a metal rubbing sound as I glide in...it's either the brake pads or the wheel bearings I think - is that normal?

The stock Harley brake pads generate a lot of dust, and sometimes it gets into the area around the piston seals inside the calipers, making the piston harder to retract so it sticks and the pads rub the rotor. Clean around the piston seals with some spray brake cleaner, and while you are at it, replace the pads with Lyndall pads, they make a lot less dust and noise as well.
Cleaning and lubing the pad pin bolts is also a very good thing to do.

If its an intermitant rub the rotor could be warped . Thats what happened to my superglide .
I took mine to work and checked it on the inspection plate , yep warped big time , to far gone to save . I feel that the design , rather than the steel ( stress) is a bit week so I replaced it with a Russel rotor . The Russel is just a ventilated disk , no elliptical cutouts , very strong , no problems since .

I don't know how to do this. Is it explained in the service manual?

Clean and regrease the calipar Bolts/Pins, Most times they are just binding a little bit and don't allow the pads to release fully
