My throttle cable isn't lubed. It rides in a plastic (teflon?) sleeve. I do lube the clutch cable, usually with an old solution of graphite in alcohol I made up.
WD-40 isn't a very good lube. OTOH, it's a great Water Displacer.

I just use alittle bit of synthetic gear lube as I typically have it handy. I keep meaning to get a cable dedicated lube but never seem to get aorund to to it - so the gear oil it is.
