It's difficult to say no when you're going to the same hotel. I had the misfortune of riding to and from Daytona a few years back with the slowest guy on the planet. 20-25mph below whatever the posted speed limit, he nearly got us killed on I-95 going on the on ramp at 50 and nearly running us into a truck. I stayed with him and his friend for about 20 miles, stuck behind semis, then I couldn't take it any longer and rode home alone.

So I just need a nice way to say I'd rather ride alone or with a couple others that ride similar to me.

I just tell people they are more than welcome to ride with my group and we normally ride between 80 - 90 MPH. We are all experienced riders who have been riding together for 30 years so our idea of a ride formation is no formation at all...yet we ride our non-formation like a formation. Organized Chaos...so to speak.

I let them tell me "no thanks", this way I don't feel bad. Then I say "well, the offer stands bro, you're more than welcome to ride with us".

My antique bike friends ride slower. With stuff that old, anything over 65 is pounding on it. It's neat to ride with them, but if it's hot, I drift ahead. They don't mind because I'll have cold beer waiting when they get there.

But if it's nighttime, I run in front and stay with them, because I'm likely the only one with a 12V headlight.

Just tell him that you ride at the speed that you want to and that if he can't/won't keep up, you'll meet him at the hotel.

Or just leave with him and ride how you want to....He'll either keep up or he won't.

You could tell him you have a highly contagious disease that's airborne.

I'll ride with you to the first gas stop, but if you haven't pulled in by the time I've filled up, you're on your own.

Once you're out of sight, stop two exits early.

Or you could just say "no thanks". Sarcastic laughter and eye rolling optional.

Honestly, your in a tough spot to be in. It's easy to say, hurtful or mean things on a keyboard and yet it's entirely different thing telling it to a person's face. But if they can't keep up or their riding is a danger to the rest of the group, it's time to cut sling load and ride alone...

Why not just say that your and his riding style is way too different and You'd rather ride alone so you can enjoy your trip.

Or you take the lead and let him follow and keep up with you...

Point blank. You almost got me killed last time, that's why I turned around. See you there.

Suggest he switches to Amsoil. His bike will run better and allow him to keep up.
